That has been always the case up until now (at least from XP ,7 and until 8 it can be done this way).īut Alas when I tried to add new Language/Keyboard, it showed me “only one language pack allowed”. I thought I could easily just add a Japanese Keyboard later on. During the setup I chose English as my Display language because that’s the way I prefer it. But I didn’t aware until I set the Windows that the version is a Single Language. Recently I just bought myself a brand new Laptop that came with Windows 10 Home. I've created two keyboards.Being a Trilingual Translator and Interpreter for almost a decade, it is imperative for me to have a Japanese Keyboard on my PC and my preferred display language is always English. In my case I changed the "Windows Menu" key, which I never use, to the "RO" key.

That means the software creates a keyboard rule (in Windows registry) that intercepts a keystroke and replaces it with an alternative function. I used the free software "KeyTweak" to remap the keyboard strokes. my relatively simple workaround! I've not found this idea on the Internet so thought it would be good to share. I've checked several US keyboards and all seem to lack the equivalent "backslash key" needed for "RO". Great idea but it seems to be impossible! Why? Because Japanese keyboards have an extra key for the "RO" Hiragana character. So my idea was to use a mini folding US keyboard and cover the keys with Hiragana keyboard stickers, from eBay. My wife (Japanese) has a new tablet but wanted to use a standard separate keyboard. Or at least one that doesn't need multiple & confusing keystrokes, or cost a fortune. You just can't buy a mini Japanese (Hiragana) keyboard!. There seems to be a strange problem in Japan. US to Japanese Keyboard Conversion & the Mystery of the Missing "RO" / "ろ" Key!!
